Ya’ll Have to See This: West African Orishas

This link actually has something to do with writing (sort of.)

I wish I was more familiar with the Orishas.  I’ve done a little reading on them after stumbling across them in the course of my research.

One of my passions is studying new cultures.  I love the stories, the window to the lives of the believers, how you can see what the civilizations valued about life and the human condition, what they feared.  I also enjoy seeing themes appearing again and again in cultures from around the world and across time.  How people really are similar in spite of differences in geography or “advances” in civilization.

I’d love to see the Orishas get even a little of the literary and cinematic attention that the Greek, Roman, and Egyptian pantheons get.  But I’m definitely going to keep an eye out for any good texts on them.  For now, I’ll have to settle for these stunning images.

Enjoy 🙂
